Cleaning rusty chrome exhaust
What are the best methods people have used to clean rusty pipes (chrome - specifically V&H 4-1)? Mine are pretty nasty and I don't need to get them perfect. I've been trying a few things today - tin foil and water actually seems okay, shockingly - but I want expert opinions.

NEVER use foil on the pipes..or scotch brite pads. I use Marvels Mystery oil and Tshirt rags to remove heavy tarnish and rust. Swab it on heavy and let it set an hr or so to dissolve the crud. Scrub with more oil and rags till they are really clean. Wash with warm water and dish soap to remove the oil residue. Polish with your favorite chrome polish.
But my personal favorite for pipes is Buschs Super Shine Aluminum Polish. Does a great job in my opinion. Available at any pilot truck stop or you can order it online.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

I tried foil once and it left scratches and a very misty foggy look to the chrome...never again for me.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Maybe we have some super industrial foil sold locally but really an internet nonsense legend spread by folks who have never used it or by mean spirited bastards bent on messing folks about.1983 GS 550 LD
