thanks for the info. I was most interested in the dot 5 for it's anti-corrosiveness. It sounds like it would work O.K. as long as you're using new parts, and stay out of the water.

Dot 5.0 gives a "spongey" feeling compared to Dot 4 or 5.1. Some people don't like (it's noticeable at the pedal in a car, not tried it on a bike).

It's fine for use in a new system in any vehicle, the danger with using in a used system is that it reacts with the DOT4 on the seals & makes them swell which can lead to things locking up.

As long as you replace with new seals & hoses all the way through you should be ok.

I believe dot 5 has a higher boiling point and is less prone to absorb water, but need to be changed more often.

You are talking about Dot 5.1.

Dot 5.0 is silicon and does not absorb water. That is it's key benefit (Although some have reported that it's possible to get water "pockets" in the lines trapped by the silicon).

I believe (but am not 100%) that it was developed for Army / Emergency vehicles that would not be used for a long time but needed to be ready at a moments notice. The fact that it's not flammable & doesn't strip paint are good benefits to some too...
