Anyone ever mounted Ammo Cans to a GS750?

What size cans did you put on it and how did you mount them so they were secure?

I can't help on the mounting, but 50BMG cans would be very manageable, size-wise. I look forward to some pics being posted of ammo cans being used as saddle bags (that is what you are thinking, right?).

EDIT - a quick google search gave this as the first hit: http://www.instructables.com/id/Ammo-Can-Saddlebags/

Thats what I'm thinking. I want to paint the tank of the gullywhumper OD and the engine and frame matte black. Kind of a shout out to my Airborne days. The ammo cans would finish the look off perfectly in my mind. Just wish they weren't so damned heavy. Can't win em all. The only thing I can see that might interfere with install are the rear shocks.

When I first got my motorcycle endorsement I wanted so bad to have a Royal Enfield Bullet Military. It had metal cans for saddlebags, although they were made special for the bike. Here's what it looked like:

Me too! I'm still debating whether or not to put bags on my 750. If yours works out I may go for the ammo cans myself.

I always did like the Enfield Bullet's style. It's supposed to look like a cafe racer but it's dirt cheap. They're made in India, and the military model was orignally for India's police and military use. I've always been a sucker for Army surplus gear and the O.D. appeals to me too.

One complaint I read about the Military model is that the clamps that attached the boxes to the frame would rattle and clank, and scuff the paint. Many owners would cut up an old inner tube and wrap pieces of it inside the clamps to cushion them. That trick might come in handy depending on how you mount your ammo cans.
