    How do you tell which model you have Z or D.

    As far as I know the D had no mechanical advancer for the ignition, it was fully electronic.

      Here in the 'States, the Z or D is part of the VIN. So you would find 850GLD or 850GLZ in the number. You have an '82, so that is most likely the Z model, with a silver engine instead of black. You probably also have the final drive splines that wear out and strand you sometime after 20,000 miles. If you're not sure you have the original engine paint, you could look on the parts diagrams for differences between the Z and D models. If you look up the '82 diagrams, there will be annotations for diagrams that are specific to the Z or D model. So, you should be able to find something pretty quickly that would tell you.
