    In the palm of our hands, there are two arteries, the medial and the ulnar, which irrorate small blood vessels, in both the palm, fingers and the front of the hand itself; a lesser then optimal blood flow, is gonna cause the dreaded numbness.

    Grabbing and twisting the grip, resting part of the upper body weight on it, the high frequency vibrations generated by the trotthle tube, and the wrong kind of gloves, they all conspire to the condition you experience.

    So, having been in the same predicament, I took countermeasures in any of the cited compartments;

    First thing, I swapped the stock handlebar mounts, with a pair of pullback-risers (they rise the bar 2,5cm and bring it back 3cm);
    than I squeezed as much silicon I could manage, into the bar cavities, to mute the highest freq;
    equipped the trottle with a pair of foam grips (like the ones shown in one of the pics in this post);
    got a pair of well fitting and properly manufactured gloves (yes if you are wondering, in certain aspect of "gearing" quality, both inherent and perceived, goes hand in hand with the price you pay for it);

    and finally, something which will raise a sneer or two, I built up -- well, it really has to be exercised continually -- a stronger core (the central part of the body) much to the relief of the perifery of the upper limbs.

      I put the fat center foam grips on yesterday,I'm going to therpy,once a week,as long as I Can!
      I'm wearing a fore arm band,similar to a tennis elbow band.
      My right hand is always cold,anytime the temp falls below 75-80. Some swelling also most days.
      I'm trying some natural meds my Dr recomended? Turmic a spice and b150 vit..
      I have a squeeze ball for hand Excessive?
      My neck was damaged in an car wreck,and acording to the Dr, that's where my trouble comes From?
      When driving a car, I set on my hand ,part time to warm,I think heat is the only thing that's really going to help much on cold day rides.next time I go I'm trying a hand warmer to c what happens.
      Then I'll consider heated Gloves?
      I Imagen my bikes will mostly be parked till spring,and I start driving my classic cars,they have HEAT!
      Getting old,it's still better than getting 6ft under?
      Thanks all!

        A lot of good info... I want the lock, already have cramp buster (somewhere in a drawer)
        but I feel the real long-term cure is to change to a more upright sitting position (change your bars).
        1980 GS1000G - The Beast - GOING... GOING... yup, it's gone. I'm bikeless !!! GAaaahh !!!
        1978 KZ1000C1 Police - GONE !
        1983 GPZ750, aka ZX750A1 - restored, fresh paint... Gave it back, it was a loaner !!!
        Check My Albums for some of the 30+ headaches I've dealt with

        I know -JUST- enough to make me REALLY dangerous !

          Changing bars, or at least the position of the hands, can make a big difference. My wife's L came with bars that were a bit lower than stock G bars. She is short. We got some L-type bars (actually off a KZ1300B), but even that was not enough. She was feeling pain across the shoulders, so we got a set of bar-backs that moved the bars about 2 inches straight back. Now, she is not reaching forward and stretching her shoulders.

          Finding bars that do the same thing would be cheaper, but sometimes the wrist angle on your current bars might be SO right, you hate to chance giving that up on another set of bars.

            Some of the classic cars I've had didn't have much. But then I never expected much out of early 50's Chrysler stuff. I fared much better when I graduated to BOP's from GM. I still remember the happiness from a real heater in my 1st 59 Olds.

              I'm not good with TLAs.

              What's a BOP?

                    Thanks for the anatomical perspective. I find I’m not a fan of the angle of the bars/grips on my 1100es. When I first rode the 700es with it’s more swept back grip angle I thought it felt odd but realized that my shoulder position was more comfortable. I thought I liked the smaller grip feel but I’m going to look for thick soft gel grips because I am always trying to get the blood to flow into my throttle fingers. Doing the core work. That’s a great suggestion.

                      And, if you go the full way, installing pullback/risers, factor a mod to the trotthle cable Add at least 1in and a 1/2, and, -but here your mileage may vary- make shure that the brake hoses have enough "rope".
                      I happened to have just installed braids, cut to my specs, so no problem form me there.

                        I put the fat centered grips on both my classic. It has helped a Lot! I've rode 2-3hundred miles total now with no cramps.
