disc brake carrier paint

The carriers on the disc brake rotors are in need of paint. What type/brand works well? Can it also be used for the brake calipers?

If you have the ability to shoot paint then some Gunkoat is good stuff for applications like that. It sprays decently enough and then you cure it in an oven.

I used VHT satin black caliper paint. It requires baking at a moderate temp to cure properly but does end up chemical and heat resistant if baked. Even though it's a satin finish it does have more sheen to it than stock if that's important but if you use it on both the hanger and caliper you won't really notice much difference.

Hey Chuck, how is the finish on their satin black. close to original or shinier? The front end is just pre-assembled and would be easy enough to respray it.

Maybe just a smidge on the shinier side. Not like a dull matte finish but not quite what I would call breaking over to a gloss either..if you know what Im trying to describe. Its pretty darn close to stock though in my opinion.

I use VHT Epoxy paint on much of the stuff that I paint black. Can't tell you how it compares to "stock" or "original", I have never seen any of that to be able to judge it.

Hope that caliper paint is better than VHT Engine paint because that stuff is brittle and gasoline eats into it toot sweet if you happen to suffer a spill.

Never had an issue with any VHT on my engines and theres been a good amount of fuel slopped from time to time removing carbs and what not. If it been heat cured there shouldnt be an issue. The can even says it must be heat cured for chemical resistance.

I used it on my cylinder head and cylinders when I did the top end a few years ago and before reassembling I torture tested it with brake fluid, brake cleaner and gasoline just to make sure it worked and nothing marred the finish at all. Still on there and still looks great. Did you oven cure it as recommended? I assume you did and am surprised by your results. By the way I used the aluminum color over aluminum, not the black.

OOPS! Just reread your post and it was the caliper paint I used on the engine parts and it worked great, not the engine paint. Guess I won't be trying their engine paint anytime soon. LOL.

Small town and they didn't have it on the shelf when I did rebuild so used the caliper paint. Turned out durable as heck and pretty near perfect match to original. I've been using the black on other stuff too, baking is a bit of a pain though.

Thanks! I don't like shiny on brake stuff as its harder to clean, but I may not have many choices. Ive heard from this forum and another about the vht-127 silver for engines and it looks sweet. Has anyone ever used clear coat on spoked wheels? I have aluminum rims w/ss spokes and I spent a ton of time cleaning them up and unlike a engine cover, if they get bad again, its a lot of work.

I have polished hubs on my machine before having rims respoked. Cleared and they seem fine still. Just be darn sure the metal is super super clean. And an adhesion agent wont hurt either.
