Polished front calipers

IMG_20160322_174746200.jpgIn getting my GS1100L out again after 3 years of slumber, I found that the front brakes were not releasing as they should, so I rebuilt them, and in doing so, found that the original finish was in need of some attention.
In my usual approach with aluminium parts, I chose to polish, ather than repaint.
In doing so, I blended the mold casting lines and went to town with the sanding before polishing began.
The end results make them stand out, but fit my overall theme on my GS.

When I rebuilt the rear caliper on my GS850 I ended up stripping the black finish, but I didn't polish it.



I hope you're replacing those ancient tires and brake lines before riding anywhere.

Thanks a lot....just getting my 1100L back together after a cleanup and complete rebuild of brakes and master cylinders and looks like I will be pulling the calipers back off again.


Did you clearcoat the calipers?

Never clear coat. Much easier to keep them polished and it will never chip or peal.
