    Krauser and Samsonite Bags

Been tidying up the Krauser bags on the GS1000G I keep in CA. They are narrow installed compared to Samsonite. They are easier to install and remove as well. Gravity often removes them in fact, if things aren't perfect, according to BMW forums. These are the old type which are more prone to falling off:IMG_0766.jpg

They sit farther forward, but work great two up. I'll figure out a trunk for the rack.

I've been using Samsonite on GS since the mid 80s. The 1000G in Maine and CA both use Samsonite. Samsonite requires use of canvas covers to be waterproof, and they are fiddly to install and remove. The bags use a sticky and recalcitrant barrel key mounting which is a bit of a pain, but not known to be susceptible to falling off like the Krausers. I've got two full spare sets of Samsonite plus more bags on top of that, but I'm liking the narrowness of the Krausers for lane splitting. I'm working on a permanent solution to the falling off issue. It is the rear locking mount that causes it. I've never experienced it personally.

Here is a bike with Samsonite, Just the trunk installed:2010 June Oregon 047.jpg
It is the hard to find deep trunk. Really handy for grocery shopping, etc. This is near Cape Lookout/Cape Mears in Oregon.

This is the first set I bought. You can see the covers. This one had a failure of the elastic on one of the covers. It never caused a problem when used on the trunk.

CBX Valdez.jpgIf you buy these, and there were a lot sold for GS850/GS1000, among other brands, they more often than not do not include the covers. This one does not have the tall trunk.

This is at the old Valdez town site, around 1989. The town was moved after a tsunami took the old town out in 1964.

Close up of how the Samsonite Luggage mounts look. Six bolts will take the side bag mounts off of both sides. With these, you can leave the grab handle on the left side frame rail on. The centerstand is much easier to use with these than with the Krausers mounted.

Paul, do you need any Samsonite stuff? I have a good shape large (the rare one) rear bag, locks and keys, triangles. You were a real good sport and sent me a bag when I crashed with mine, I'd like to repay the favour.

Thought that would be a little easier on the eyes.
