    Tach RPM Redline?

I’m looking to purchase an 83’ GS1100E so looking for a decent one in good running condition for sale. It was my understanding that the 83’s had a 9500 redline tach. I ran across an 83’ who’s tach indicates 9000 redline ? The motor is black which is what I thought the 83’s had.

I was wanting to go with the 83’ since I’m under the impression that the motor’s have been upgraded and I like the higher speedometer reading.

Any help would be greatly appreciate!!

I upgraded my '82's clocks with an '83 set and the tach looks identical (9k redline). I have seen some '83's with 9500 redline, don't know why.

The '83 is considered more desirable mostly, I believe, because the crank is welded.

Thank you Rob. Anyone else have any input ? Manufacturing Date or engine upgrades later in the 83' Year ?

Most here are of the opinion that the engine upgrades may have happened in later '82. So if you have an '83, feel safe that you have the stronger engine.

There are plenty of visual cues, the wheels most notably. Then the passenger peg mounts.

I'm pretty satisfied with my '82, it just creeps into my mind if I'm playing near redline in first or second that the crank's not welded.

1100E Cranks were welded starting midproduction on the 82 models.

I'm wondering if the 9500 rpm redline tach has anything to do with the more aggressive cam change that Suzuki made in the 83' model year ?
