Fixing my 1150 ignition cover to work with Dyna S

In order to put the Dyna S ignition in my 1150 the cover needed to be cut to allow clearance for a bolt on the end of the crank. When Skip did this originally he simply cut some of the inside of the cover away, and drilled a hole in the cover, about 3/4 of an inch diameter. He then glued some sort of cover over it, but it was gone when I received the bike. So in the beginning of the year, looking for a suitable cover for the hole, I found a Guinness bottle cap, and jb welded it to the cover. It worked well, and gave it that nice red neck flare. Well I ended up trailering the bike to the shop for one of my starter clutch fiascos, and had a strap break on the trailer. While I was able to keep the bike on the trailer, it did tip over, and the total damage was my bottle cap fix. Of all the things to damage, I figured that was the best thing.

Which brings me to my point, I decided to try and fix it a better way. So I took a piece of 1/4 inch aluminum plate, traced out the cover, and cut out a spacer, then cut out the inside to allow for all the ignition components. Then I sanded and polished it for a couple hours. Then I just needed to fill the hole in the cover, so I taped the outside, flipped the cover over, and filled the hole with jb weld, and let it setup overnight. After that I just painted the cover, and got some longer bolts to account for the spacer.

    Here's how it turned out:

Nice work Luke, but I gotta vote for the Guiness bottle cap method.

Another way is to use a cover from an 1100.

You gotta put the Guinness cap back on the bike!!!

        Just glue it back on.
