    GS650E tank on GS1000?

Hey everyone. Currently doing a semi resto on a 78' GS1000 that the previous owner butchered with a weird franken-tank made of a harley sportster tank. I found a guy nearby who has a GS650E tank with fuel petcock, fuel sensor and locking cap and key which looks to be in great condition (asking 90$ which I think is great).

I'm wondering if this tank will fit on the GS1000? They appear to be the same but I'm not 100% sure.

    Thanks.

So just from some quick digging it looks like the rear mount is slightly different ,with the 1000 tank bolting in parallel to the ground and the 650e vertical, however my current tank bolts in vertical... hmmmm

2nd generation 750E or 1st gen 1100E tanks are a straight bolt on. Don't think any other tank is. There are quite a few threads about this topic in the archives so you might want to try searching for more info.

        Thanks.
IIRC there was a member on here that was a located in Quebec who sold parts and had dozens of bikes he was parting out, he might be a good contact if someone can remember who he is.

BTW I can also confirm a 1981/82 GS650E tank will not be a direct bolt on, as I have had both bikes.

        Good luck

        David.

        Edit, found him.

Thanks everyone. If there is someone here in Quebec who's parting out bikes I gotta find them, in need of some pieces!

It bolts on but you need to mess with the petcock. They are in a diff spot so interfere with the carb tops (due to the change of carbs VM/CV at 1980)

His GSR user name is "pousseux" and his real name might be Mike??? if I remember correctly. You'll probably have some luck if you just him a PM.
