    Handlebar ends

    image.jpg
These metal ends on the handle bars, are they stock?

Whether or not, do they screw in or simply get pushed in?

I've got a piece of 2x4 and my hammer and my bigger hammer. I thought I'd ask first.

My guess is no, they're not. Weights on the end of the bars are a popular aftermarket item to help reduce the vibration in the bars.

They don't seem like weights to me; they seem very light, ornamental.

Handlebar weights I've dealt with Do Not come out easily. For obvious reasons.

Mine have pushed-in and locked, against pulling out...these have had sliding tabs that you can push to de-expand the rubber washers that hold them....but it all gets kind of sticky, if they've been in there 20 years or more. Those Might use a screw to expand them...or ?

What bike are they on? I'd go-slow, look-close, do research before you wreck them or just leave them alone.

They're on the 1100EZ. I wasn't planning on removing them, one side is just sticking out too much.

ah-so. None of my Suzukis have weights...better wait til someone that has them comes along. But don't just bang on them.

add: I'd expect they'd just bounce on "stuck-rubber" inside. Better probably to know the mechanism, remove em, clean it all up and push em back in.

...but I'm already "thinking" some heat (hot wet rag or heat gun) and some tire-lube, if they are bouncy-when-tapped..and nothing else works

GK have bar end weights, stock. Are held in by tightning screw that goes thru them and a big rubber plug. Tightning the screw compresses the plug that makes it expand.
But they dont look at all like that.

If it's the throttle side, don't push it in more or it may interfere with it's operation!

Got real lucky on this one. Mentioned this to my mechanic, and even though these ugly metal ends were on the bike long before he ever saw it, he opens his fist and says, "These were what was originally on it."

In his palm were two rubbery plastic black caps. Longer one for throttle. Phillips head got the old throttle end off, small vise grips the other side. Plastic ones went on by hand, with minimal trouble and rolling back the Grab Ons.

I recently removed old bars on my gs1100e cause I keep hearing a rattling sound and I found out previous owner used ball bearings and silicone to place the BBs inside the bars. So I put on a new handlebar and I made my own weights out of brass at work and lightly pushed them in. Those pieces you have are just for looks or to cover the hole.
