    custom front fenders

Does anyone have any good examples of custom front fender options or chopped stock fenders for a 1978 gs 1000. I have a dent in mine and I am considering chopping or customizing it in some way. would love to see some good examples or anything you guys have done or aftermarket options.

    Thanks,

The only "customizing" that I have done is to hammer out the dents the best I can, then re-mount the full fender.

I never have understood the appeal of a shorter (or no) fender. Besides keeping a bunch of dirt and general crud off the front of the engine, it actually helps cool the engine by controlling the air flow around the edge of the tire, then re-directing it into the air stream to cool the engine.

I had a chopped one on mine previously... If I remember it was out of necessity to chop out some damage but also suited the look I wanted...

Is that a gs1100 fender you are running now?

Yes, I run the whole front setup off an 83 GS1100E with the addition of a fork brace, anti dive block-off's (with a linking channel), straight weight springs & cartridge emulators...

At some point I may well put the chopped fender back on... who knows. It's been waiting for a re-paint for about half a dozen years...

I have those forks as well and I am in the process of deciding on springs and considering emulators. what wt and brand spring are u running? anything else you could suggest about the forks for the best overall improvement in handling?

I use the Mikes XS emulators with an adapter. The rebound adjust still works after fitting them. I run a chopped stock spring. It's chopped the most you can go to give me a 43lb spring rate. I'm only 160.

If I was going to buy some I'd get Sonic. How heavy are you? You could potentially use Progressives with the close would end cut off if you're heavier than me. They are 50lb straight weight when the progressive end becomes coil bound (the coils touch to make a solid tube).
They sometimes come up on here a bit cheaper. (I have a set I'd probably sell).

No probs... The Progressive will probably work for you. If you want them straight weight I can cut them for you if necessary. Let me know if you want them, we'll work something out with the brake brackets.

But this is what you have installed in your gs1100 forks? What adapter is needed, I assume the dampner rods still need drilling etc.

                              Hey Dan,

I assume they sell the adapter, I have sent them a question asking that, but you likely know as well. if not where did you get your adapter?
