      New tank returned

      Hi guys,

Sorry its been a while but i have been manic with work and being forcibly quarantined in Saudi when returning to work there; all boring and there are far worse things happening to far nicer people.

Thought i would update you that the new aftermarket tank i ordered in the UK just didn't remotely fit in spite of chatting with the seller. As ever i really appreciate the advice given by SteveB and Gorminder, both always quick to help and advise.

I am going to order the best looking original tank that i can get, think i have found one from a parts supplier in the UK, he's just going to check against a frame that "he thinks he has" and get back to me.

Would really have liked to get a new tank as the cost difference between new and old was not the issue just wanted to get it on. However, there is no rush as i am stuck in Saudi now until international flights open up again so i may not see my project again until September!!

So please feel free to share if you are aware of an aftermarket tank that works, its not to late!!!

Can't help much with a 79 550E but i note from CMNSL that the bikes with the same frame and tanks are these below...It's very possible that tank fitment changed in 1980 so be careful there... The easily notable difference seems to be the gas cap as a general indicator. ..?

If you settle on a close alternate (CMNSL has some -might help if you can identify which bike they really came from) The original tankLOOKS like it fits to "stalks and rubber covers" at the front. pretty common on bikes in general... and moddable for a tank that does at least have a "tunnel" that fits the frame tube. Another common "hangup" are coils. These can often be moved...to underneath the tube if they are sitting too wide or anywhere really that suits the plug wires and is not over-hot.
from CMNSL frames: and tanks too I think that are the same...
        fits models
