    1977/78 GS 1000 paint etc.

    Folks

I am presently tearing down a 77- could be 78 - GS1000c exported from the US. An early one with wire wheels. The tank panels and tailpiece are I think the wrong colour, and as such I would like to return them to original specification. A bit of search on the web yielded an original paint scheme I quite like - see attachment. I think the early GS1000c came with this light metallic blue and the satin black side panels.

As such, does anyone have a suitable paint code the painters or suppliers may use to change the colour to this ostensibly correct 77/78 metallic blue colour please?

Secondly, the tank and tailpiece are not original. They are not fluted - which is a shame as getting hold of one over here (Scotland) is pretty much impossible. Any ideas as to how I may replicate the origanal using the later tank fitted to mine. The Suzuki badge is much higher up the tank which does not help in lining up the correct decal set.

    Many thanks

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

That picture is not a U.S. color, ours were dark blue W/ light blue stripes & dark maroon W/ orange stripes. The one in your picture is an "E" model, our "E"'s were black W/ white stripes

My bike is definitely a 77/78 no later. The absence of a fluted tank is due to it being replaced by a later tank which for sure looks to be 79 onwards. The badge position on this tank is the main obstacle to replicating originality. The metallic blue option for Es and maybe Cs was I believe standard across the range, but I concede it may have never made it to the US.
