within a mile is was doing same , bogging down.

went on 1 cylinder. pull rh plug and that's te one that has the issue.
    so
    plug
    ht lead
    rh coil
So the next step is to swap the coils and if the other cylinder fails it's likely the coil and if the problem remains on the same one it's the pickup or ignitor etc for that cylinder.

      Update:
      pickup leads re wired
      inline filter off
      no kinks in fuel line

      next:
      as suggested coils.
      - I found my spare set of coils. these have the ht lead hard wired into them as do originals. I went and put them directly in.
(note to swap coils over is a but hard as block connectors different so can't get wrong.)

      - different set of coils
      - different ht leads
      - same plugs (never touched these )

2m run and no issues. Need a longer run but I hold my breath.

      New coil stats ;
      both
      secondary 4.4 ohms
      primary 11000 ohms

Long 15m run and no issues.

so I think it was either coil or ht lead.
and possibly not helped by the poor
        wiring on the pickup connector.

I don't think fuel had anything to do with
        it ......

          and .....
the bike starts immediately . pre doing this work with coils etc it was hard to start. now at the flick of the switch it starts. never known that with this bike .

but of course never swapped coils

It went again. 1.5m out and had to push it back a mile.
bogging down, and then elecs just stopped. now ig light but no starter motor.

so I have achieved nothing. I just cannot get to where this is coming from

Going by some of the previously supplied info it appears that you may have had several issues including undercharging.
Your latest problem sounds like a drained battery with just enough juice to give the ign light a glimmer.
You should have around 13.8 volts when revved so you need to check the charging system and reg/rec etc and also investigate any possible shorts in the wiring.

update : so still bogging down.

                  -cleaned carbs previously many times
-changed to other coils that did test OK on the bench
                  -removed inline filter
                  -swilled out tank

still bogging down after mile run.

-redid stator wiring and checked briefly all wiring for looseness Inc pickups.
                  - did stator test , ohm , and volts.

                  resistance between 3 wires
                  a-b 1.4 ohms
                  a-c1.4 ohms
                  b-c 1.4ohms

each stator leg to earth on battery
                  a = 1
                  b = 1
                  c = 1
(this is correct I am told )

on Ac volts test each leg of stator to each other
                  a-b 2k revs 33v 3k revs 58v
                  a-c " "
                  b-c " "

Battery test get ok readings when increasing revs .. 3500 plus...

                  - did a wire wiggle test under seat.

Found a 6 pin block that when wiggled caused a similar bogging down issue .

                  will clean tomorrow.

                  q) how do you test pickups?

                  q) how do you test rectifier / regulater ?

no idea at moment . of bike is running and I pull it its stops! wiggling causes a electricy type of bog down !!
so there are dirty or like connections.

Well I only see two six wire connectors on the bike one is for the ignitor the other looks to be the instrument cluster.
Whoever scanned the pdf was low on HD space or a sadist as its just legible enough to force you to try and read it.

The wires connect the pulsar pickups to the ignitor and to the coils.

the pickups connector has 4 wires.

the one in question has 6 and is underneath near air box.
YES JUST REALISED IT IS COMING FROM OR TOO THE IGNITER !!

p.s I think it is a simgle phase rectifier on it as is so small and 3 wires are different colours.
other type have 3 wires same colour like on my GS.

                                Can't access that.
whatever the fact is mine has 3 different coloured wires going into the same. and so do my gs550 ones .... so yes prob is as you say .......

bogged down again. so I am beginning to thibk its the pickups.
never known such a problem to sort. iv usually got it by now. I dare not go more than a mile on it now .

anyone any ideas what next ?
I am convinced now at least it is not fuel related. as it runs for a while fine through all revs)
