    Cracked Choke Tubes 1978 GS550E

I’ve been chasing a fuel leak from the number 2 and number 3 carburetors. I recently replaced all float gaskets and needles with new Suzuki parts. However upon reassembly, I noticed that choke tubes were cracked. The number 2 was cracked to the base of the carb.

is this causing my overflow issues?

can I replace the chime tubes or can I only solder them?

These won't overflow, as fuel only flows thru them when you pull the choke lever
they are tricky to replace, you have to make your own.
Also tricky to solder and not get solder into the passage.

      thanks Big T!!!

These cracks wouldn’t cause any other issues like hanging idle?

I had the carbs on and the bike started and ran. Just needs tuning and making sure the carbs don’t overflow.

also, I read on another post that choke tubes aren’t that important and the carbs will be fine. Is this true and should I march on?

The only problem you will face is that the choke won't work in that cylinder.

I'd replace the tube. You can buy brass tubing by K&S in better hobby stores. The diameter may be a little small, but it can be flared out by progressively expanding it using the non-cutting side of some small drill bits. And speaking of drill bits, that tube is cross drilled right before it enters the carb body. You will need a tiny drill bit for that part.

There is info on the replacement on the internet. Try a google search for replacing overflow tubes in Keihin carbs. The process is the same.
