    Fuel tank bad

Can’t really find a clear answer the fuel tank on my 79 gs1000 I’ve been told can’t be repaired due to all the rust. I found a tank off a 1980 gs750L that looks the same but I was just wondering if it’ll bolt on and any issues with the petcock location ?

Issues? Probalbly, The 79 had VM carbs, the 80 had CV carbs/ different carb-to-head rubber boot set up. The L tanks were on the smallish side. Someone may know for sure.

It may fit The petcock is mounted further back on the tank to clear the CV carbs, so you'd need a longer fuel line. Plus 80 tanks have the dreaded leverless petcock.

An 80-81 1100E tank would be a better choice

Seems like I’m gonna have a hard time finding a replacement . On the lever less petcock couldn’t I just switch it to a different petcock? I’m just curious I don’t know much about bikes. Also this thing is a full blown turd at the moment definitely a project so I don’t mind running longer lines and such
