    GS1000 Mikuni VM26

Refurbishing a set of 78 GS1000 VM26 carbs with the LH side choke lever. Plan on installing a Dyno Jet Stage 3 kit I had lying around. Had a couple of carb rebuild questions for the seasoned VM rebuilders. For the pilot fuel screw, how many CCW turns should the screw be set at to eliminate the cold blooded nature? Thought it was 2 CCW turns?

Second for the carb rebuild kits, I believe the consensus is just use K&Ls kits. Just wondering what is the experience with Damineding kits from Taiwan? I will not need the Mains or Pilot jets because of the Dyno Jet kit but may need the valve seat assemblies. Wondering about the Damineding quality which I assume is you get what you paid for . . .

DO NOT replace any original brass internals unless they are physically damaged.
The only internals that may need replacing are float valves, 'O'rings, Gaskets ,choke plunger seats and possible the fuel mix screws if the tips are badly worn or broken.
Only use genuine Mikuni or Keyster parts if anything else has to be replaced.
All other chinese, Taiwanese etc kits are garbage..

Don't use that K&L kit. This oring kit is all you should need, plus new gaskets. https://www.ebay.com/itm/29341695323....c101103.m3021

All the internal carb components are undamaged. The float valve assemblies are marked 2.0 and the float needles still have some spring force. I will try a leak test down the road.I received the Ebay O-rings yesterday.

        Thanks Zed1015 & 93 Bandit!

You're very welcome, Sir. FYI, I recently used that ebay oring kit to get my 750 running and they've been working great. As I recall, there were 2 orings that were very similar in size which was a bit tricky determining which one when on which part. Unfortunately I don't recall which parts these 2 orings were on... But, if you go slow and carefully compare to the original orings as you remove them, you'll be good. This of course assumes the original orings don't crumble apart when you remove them.

I intend to get that carb sent tomorrow or Friday. I'm feeling better today so should be back to normal by tomorrow.

Follow up 1978 GS1000 VM26SS Needle Valve Assembly? The Suzuki Factory Manual does not state whether the needle valve assembly is 2.0 or 2.5. Anyone know the right size? My rebuild set has 2.0 installed. .

I checked Partzilla which references P/N 13370-18111 Needle Valve $48 USD. Has some knowledgeable GS'er deciphered the Mikuni P/N in order to check pricing elsewhere? Or knows of OEM better pricing . . .

            Thanks in advance

I don't see the specs in the manual. That said, I think the stockers are 2.3. Same as most KZ 900/1000 bikes use. 2.0's will be fine for a bike that's not going to be track raced. Or even 2.5. Doesn't matter all that much, but I error on the small side to avoid a high fuel level.

Thanks Chuck & Ed! I am reinstalling the existing 2.0's which have strong needle springs and will perform a static leak check.

I contacted Chad T @ Sudco because I wanted to see if Sudco's price for the Needle Valve Assembly 13370-18111 was cheaper than Partzilla.

The Sudco Needle Valve Assy (13370-18111) sells for $28/Ea. but are actually a 2.3, not 2.0 which are installed in these VM26's.

The Number 1 Carb Body I got from 93Bandit had a 2.3 which got me questioning the Needle Valve Assembly size in the first place

While I've been one to stress the importance of OEM Mikuni parts over the years, I've come to trust Keyster brand over all other aftermarket brands for carb parts. In fact, I use their float valves on all my VM rebuilds these days. 2.3 size. I still don't think it matters, 2.0 vs. 2.3, but the stock size never hurts...
