Lost micro clip from Mikuni 44500

    Lost micro clip from Mikuni 44500

    1982 GS 450 GA.

    Cleaning the carbs and this micro clip that seats a bearing and a pin fell out.
    Don't know where. Lucky I found the bearing and pin.

    Hard to make a good one.
    May try to find a spring that I can form. but getting a good fit is difficult.

    Anyone know this part?

    As an alternative, I may drill a micro-hole at that line and insert a brass or SS wire from the outside hoping to get a press fit for it.

      I believe that is the check valve for the accelerator pump. The 450GA is the only GS that has it.
      If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

        I think you are correct. Though it's on both float bowls. I suspect it's only in use on the one with the accelerator pump.
        Which brings me to my worse finding.

        Not one to be found.
        A 25mm one may work, but I have my doubts I will find one with the mickey mouse ears.
        Will install the old one, but little flex to it.

          If you buy the same gauge piano wire, you can harden the wire buy tying one end off to a fixed object, then take a foot length of the wire, wrap it around a wooden dowel, and pull very hard, and steady, you will feel the wire stretch, don't try and break it, once it stretches, what you have done is hardened it. From that point, any bend you make and it will stay in that shape, and you can recreate the spring clip. We used to do this when constructing air craft instrument gauges. The wire was stretched and hardened like that to hold a little flag that would drop down, telling you the gauge wasn't working anymore. You can make all kinds of springs and weird shaped wires that need to keep their tension, but stay in shape, and have that "spring" quality.

              Like I posted earlier, and after looking at the pic you posted, you can make this part very easily. I posted instructions on how to make "Spring Steel" blanks (post #5), but you could use the spring from a pen that clicks to stick out, and in, and form the piece out of the spring using a couple of good needle nose projects. Cnsidering how little pressure is on this.

                First I need to sort out the bigger issue of the accelerator pump diaphragm.
                Forming one of those is a bit more challenging.

                  I've seen the mikuni needle clip, but not this one FYI.
                  One such as this is for holding the needle.

                      Those diaphragms can be a real problem. If you still have it, and it has a leak or tear, you can use some "Flex-Sea;, and a "prophylactic, and with a very thin layer of "Flex-Seal, and a piece of the 'Prophylactic" patch the tear or hole, making the repair on the opposite side that sees gas. The "Flex-Seal" dries into rubber, you don't need much. It could be a way out till you find a replacement. Super thin rubber gloves for patch stock too, latex ones tend to come apart. .

                          I do have the old part. No tears or holes that I can see, Just very stiff, and not pliable, so flexing is potentially an issue.
                          I've been looking to see if one can be found around the same size. 25mm. With or without the ears. Seems the GA uses a one-off.
                          Currently i've been using AT-205 transmission seal restorer on it to try to soften it up.
                          I'd be tempted to see If I could pour a new one after making a die. Trick is the rubber to use being fuel resistant.
                          If I get desperate after trying the old one again, I may try to fab a new one out of RTV, or find some thin rubber sheet to make the diaphram.

                            The AT-205 does seem to be working some. I occasionally remove the diaphragm and coat it again, then lightly install back to he pump to retain it's form.
                            With luck it will work long enough to get a few 1000 miles out of the bike and then sell it.

                              This will become my solutions for the lost clip.
                              I made a press in ring that will just press to the top of the retaining ring line
                              Then it will have some slots to allow fuel to hopefully continue to flow.
                              If not, I will drill it out and try something different.
