Planning for some mods this winter on my 79 850, I’m looking at getting a dynajet kit, but one isn’t listed for the 850. There is one for the same year 1000 pn3304, am I correct in assuming the carbs are the same from 850 to 1000 just jet sizes are different? Any input is appreciated!

Sorry, I can't answer your question. That said, air jet correction inserts from Zed will allow you to run pods, and all you have to do is bump the main one step. Very simple.
What are your modding plans?Ed

I did not know that was a thing, I’ve already got a v&h 4-1, and plan on high quality pods over the winter (not cheeping out) I may have taken some advice wrong last year and rejetted for the pipe already, one up on pilot and 112.5 mains I believe, and it’s definitely rich as is79 GS850G cruising around western Maine

You simply need to fit air corrector jets and go up a size or two from stock on the mains.
Pilot jets and jet needle settings etc all need to be put back to stock and stick to the plan of fitting proper quality pods.
All the cheap chinese and no name brands will cause further problems.

I have a 77 750 bored to an 844 ( your 850 is 843 ) and I am running the VM26's that I've jetted. You should have these carbs. Correct me if I'm wrong
However:
I have 4 into1 - big tube headers with an open slip on (no baffles)
Modified air box - no correctors needed - and I run cheap Ebay pods and I don't worry about it - picture below
Dyna S ignition w/3 ohm coils - Ebay coils here
Very fresh top end - read: valve job
I am running a 115 main jet and my pilot jet is one size bigger when measuring with wire sized drill bits.
Your pilot jet is way over-sized.
I was running Kawasaki VM26's with the 17.5 pilot jet and it idle rich and I couldn't adjust it out - I was running the 107.5's in this set up but didn't ride it like this - testing purposes.
Your main jet might be ok after you finish your mods however consider grabbing some 107.5's and/or 110's
When you start modifying, having extra's doesn't hurt - this is why I have wire sized drill bits and several sets of mains.
My engine will idle about 1200 rpm's without issue.
No hesitation or dead spot - anywhere
Although I haven't been able to open her all the way up she will rip to 100 mph and without trying she will impress the girls with a 2nd gear scratch ! Need better (quicker) throttle tube
