    Correct float height for vm22ss

So what's the correct float height?. I see 26mm in the service manual and 24mm in the reference data. She's a 1978 base model with the vm22ss carbs. There's gas leaking from the overflow on 3 &4 carbs.... just a dribble but clearly not right. I had set the floats to 24mm but that's not working. Going to 26mm should lower the fuel so that's what I'm going to try but anyone want to advise their experience..... thanks

    GS550 VM22ss is 24mm + or - 1mm.
Overflowing is more likely to be due to leaking float valves.

This is straight from the service manual. Just don't like contradictory information. Appreciate best test is to do a tube test from the drain plug but I'll try the 26mm float height setting first. All the float valves are new, which doesn't mean nowt but suggests the problem lies elsewhere.

Carb spec sheet lifted from official Suzuki site..
The VM22 specs are top of the list..
        24mm float height.
New valves don't guarantee they won't leak especially if they are pattern items.

There is conflicting information in the factory Suzuki service manual. 26mm is called out in the carburetor service section, but 24mm in the specs table.

Float height is just an approximation anyway. The thing that matters is fuel height, as measured by the clear tube method. The manual has conflicting info on that too: 3-4mm in the carb section, and 4mm + 1mm in the specs section. Anywhere 3-5mm will be fine, though.

            Zed's list shows a (1982) model "1000EZ"?
1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

Correct. Surely you know that "Z" stands for 1982 in Suzuki nomenclature.

                It's the "1000" that's got me puzzled. A 1000SZ (Katana), I'm aware of, but not any 1000E in 1982.

I've never heard of a 1000EZ either, thought they were all 1100 or 750?

Just to confuse things a little more. there's a video of a "Suzuki gs1000EZ" on utube apparently from Germany. And it's very obviously an 8 valve motor with probably VM22's fitted. And no, I've never heard of a GS1000EZ either. Doesn't mean it didn't exist though as Suzuki were known to produce odd models for different markets.
