    carb rebuild kit

    So I fully expect some slack for this but being still new here let it rip. I'm half way through my rebuild on my 81 gs650 cafe racer. I have a spare carb so thought I'd rebuild it and pod it since i already had the pods sitting in the shop (queue first strike) so I went and order a rebuild kit off ebay...(queue second strike!!). Comparing the parts it's pretty clear they are not identical so I will try to restore the old ones knowing gull well I will have to rejet once I get the pods set up later on down the road. My issue is in comparing parts, I found parts already on the carb that aren't the same from carb to carb, so that had me questioning which one is right, the bits n bobs in the carb or the ebay kit?
    I don't particularly want to pull apart my good carb to see what's in it.

    Old on left ebay on right using https://gsarchive.bwringer.com/mtsac...650GManual.pdf for ref

    - Needle jet (24) looks same but way more holes on old
    - jet needle (12) ebay is a little longer and shaped a little different
    - Needle valve (27) look about the same however pulled desimilar ones from the carbs
    - pilot jet (23) size is good but no holes in the ebay one
    - pilot air jet (14) and main jet (25) hole sizes different

    Any recommendations?

    Hi there, you might want to identify the spare carbs you are trying to build, because the kit you have doesn't look to be for those carbs.

      Did you read the rebuild tutorial as linked in my signature? If so, you know that buying china rebuild kits is a bad decision. 90% of the time, the OEM high quality Mikuni brass parts in your carbs are suitable for reuse after a good cleaning. Main exception, sometimes, is the float valve. Another thing, those rebuild kits never contain a full set of O-rings, so what are you going to do? Reuse the 43 year old originals? The O-rings on the vent Tees, drain screws, and fuel transfer tubes are never included in rebuild kits.

        Spare carbs are from my 81 gs650 parts bike completely pulled apart in boxes, easy grab.

          As I posted that, I was thinking of exactly this as a response lol, yes I've read all your links many times over and damn it, I knew better but did it anyway. Lesson learned, once again your absolutely right. Guess I rationalized it knowing I was going to rejet anyway but I do wish the transfer tubes and o-rings were in the kit.
