    82 GS 750E Chain / Sprockets

Question , currently the bike has a 630 chain with a 16 front and 40 rear sprocket. Is there a way to convert to a 530 chain set up. Also is the 16- 40 ratio good or will I be looking for a 6th gear?
    Thanks

Link to my 530 conversion. I know your engine is the same as mine, not sure about the final drive ratio, so check your own numbers in the supplement I referred you to earlier, but this should get you on your way.

Edit: I just looked and your bike came with the same set up as mine. Final reduction ration 2.733 (15 tooth Front / 41 tooth rear). So if you have 16/40, someone changed it from stock for a slightly higher top end speed?

As long as you keep the relative ratio you should feel no difference other that a smoother ride.

As for looking for a 6th gear, ever since I started also riding a Triumph Triple w/ 1200 CCs, I'm always looking for another gear on the GS. Still fun, though.

You could run a 520 chain.

520 is narrower than 530. I always go for the wider setup because the sprockets and rollers have more surface area, thus wear will be lower.
