    Tank Reseal after derusting

I have my gas tank marinating the vinegar for the past couple of hours!
I was wondering how do I reseal the tank once the vinegar has ran its course

    thanks in advance!

Did you remove the petcock and fuel sending unit? Hope so, or your vinegar job will likely ruin them.

Use a mirror and flashlight to look inside the tank after you dump out the vinegar. Make sure all the rust is gone, or pour the vinegar back in.

After the tank is fully derusted, rinse well with water. Quickly, dump in a couple of bottles of isopropyl alcohol, and swish that round. Dump out, and immediately hit the tank with a heavy dose of WD-40. If your derusting job was well done, you don't have to line the tank.

I have 'rented' (i.e. borrowed) a borescope from AutoZone a couple of times for this task. Pretty handy.

Acetone pretty tough on paint and expensive - isopropyl at dollar tree.

I don't have my tank painted yet

And this is for the inside of the tank and it's looks like its bare metal in there!

As I didn't have the sender taken out

I do have another gs tank sitting around but I'll have to go looking for a petcock - fuel sender unit I can reuse from the tank that's laying around

I dug through some or your other threads to see that bike we're talking about. Best to put that info in a signature, then you'll never forget to say and we'll never have to ask.
Go to the top right of the page, pull down your username, go to PROFILE, then Edit Settings, then ACCOUNT tab, scroll down, check the boxes for Show Signatures and Show Avatars. Just below that you can create/edit your own signature.

Anywho - If it is the '82 GS650G, this is probably the petcock you want if you want to stick w/ original vacuum type. As always, verify any info for yourself.
I haven't had to replace mine yet, but will get one of these when the time comes.

Bummer. No friends or Family in the States that would get it shipped to them then send it to you? Can’t be the first time you’ve encountered this.
