    Pilot screw dilema

Working on my 1980 GS 750E project. Ok so I pulled the plugs on two carbs and can't get the pilot screws to come out. Did the PB blaster several times, heated up with torch. No luck. Now I am screwed. The one I heated up, the oring probably melted. Not sure where to go with this now.

Left handed drill bit, or cut a slot down the hole with disc on a Dremel to create a new channel in the screw for a flat head.

Below is my saga on the pilot screw. DON'T use a screw extractor, bad idea!

I am working on my carburetors for a 1980 GS850GL and two of my fuel mixture screws will not come out. This is the first time they have been out as far as I can tell, the plugs were still in place. One of them is almost out and I think I can get the rest with a screw extractor on that one. The bigger issue is the number 1 carb

oring isnt an issue. in fact if they melt that will usually release the mixture screws. Id heat it up again and let the PB soak in for a few days. Add a drop now and then. gonna take TIME for it to soak through..its not instantaniuos!!!. I can rebuild them if you wish. Private Message me for my info and we can talk on the phone about the situation.

Thanks all. Think I will try to find that Kriol penetrating oil, let set for a days use heat again. etc. Last resort cut off when to make slot deeper. I used to have a 81 1100 so I have rebuilt these mikuni carbs several times.

Cutting a slot works, but my preference is to drill a hole in the screw, and pound in a torx bit that's slightly larger than the hole. That typically provides enough grip to work the screw loose.

I learned a lesson with those brittle screw extractors. Never again.
