    Removing old gas residue

Im rehabbing the 78 1000C to sell it. Someone here once posted about what chemicals to use in a tank that has a POR 15 liner in it. Just want to rinse it out good to get any gummy sludge that may be in the bottom out. I was thinking maybe Acetone but unsure if that would harm the liner or not. I will be removing the fuel sender unit prior to cleaning.
So post up your favorites and a little tutorial on your process., Thanks.

Acetone was the only chemical that DID remove a liner for me.

No way. That crap is harsh and will eat the liner. NO NO NO.

Even the new stuff will strip paint. I have a gallon can that has taken everything I've thrown at it. It will be a small superfund site someday.

I would use Dollar Store's yellow 'LA's Awesome Degreaser', which is amazing stuff. 50/50 with water or straight up. I have never found a better degreaser for the price, and I'm pretty sure it would work. I'd put some BB's in with it, the sauce to agitate but not go crazy. Just to scuff up the surface of the scum a bit.

Goof Off is a powerful cutter but doesn't harm painted surfaces. Goo Gone is citrus-based; I prefer Goof Off. But maybe Goo Gone would suit this task. Both of those are too expensive, though, so throw a $1.25 bottle of LA's (if you can find it where you are) at it, I'd say.

Start with mineral spirits. It's pretty benign, it's a cleaner version of kerosene and will dry clean to the touch. It should dissolve old gas residue and not effect liner or paint.

Was reading seafoam will break down any varnish. Dumped a can in and will periodically shake it around. We shall see.
