I have the choke cable with a pull knob that comes up through the center of the steering stem. I ordered the replacement OEM cable (58400-45110) and looks to be the correct part, although a little different.
The new one is all plastic including the larger threads that are supposed to go into the steering stem nut. The existing one is plastic threaded into a metal "adapter" (I think) that is sticking out of the steering stem nut a ways, with a thin metal ring(nut) on the outside. Must be original...?
I was able to spin the old cable to unthread the plastic from the middle and pull it out, then took the thin metal ring(nut) off. Before I go trying to take this metal "adapter" out with some vise grips and totally messing up the threads. I thought I would ask the question about the "adapter" and if I am correct.
I don't want to screw up the threads on the actual stem... if I am not correct. Seems to go in the nut quite a bit, and I have not tried to turn it. Sprayed some PB Blaster on it to soak first.
Anyone ever seen this? The bottom threads and the ring just above the nut are both metal. I can post better pics later today when I get home.
