Engine still bogging even after new battery
My 86 gs 550 was bogging very badly and couldnt rev past about 7k rpm. My battery was also not holding a charge. This led me to beleive that my problem was either my stator, R/R or my battery. So just today I put my battery from my polaris snowmobile (it is same size around but about 1 inch taller) I fired the bike up (turned over and started with ease) and it idled beautifully. I let it idle for a good 10 minutes and then shut it off, waited about 30 seconds and started it back up without any problem. Next was the test drive. It ran fine and can now rev well past 7k rpm but it is still bogging quite a bit in the higher rpm (above 5ish) Anybody know what the problem could be?? My bike is stock and has a new air filter, the valves were adjusted my the previous owner about 6k miles ago. Thanks.Last edited by Guest; 04-04-2010, 12:23 PM.Tags: None

Some more information would be helpful...

Year
status of maintenance: valve adjustment, new carb O-rings, tank rust free, vacuum sync, type of air cleaner, etc,

Clone
you might want to put a multi meter on it while idling and at 5000 and at 8000 just to see what it is charging, simply changing a battery will not cure a bogging problem. A battery is just a storage medium for getting the bike to start, after that it is the charging system, air/fuel system and mechanical condition of the engine.

I just noticed this now that it is dark outside but when I rev my engine my headlight and signal lights get dimmer, not brighter. What does this mean?? Thanks
