Can anybody tell me how to insulate the filter? I guess by extension I could also seal the side of the airbox.

Oil/Gas Resistant Foam
I replaced the air filter in my '81 850 and all of the insulating material between the top of the filter and the airbox crumbled out. I know there is an air gap between them as I can feel the looseness of the filter. I have put in some temporary foam insulation that I used to seal the side of the airbox from prior inspections, but I don't think it is holding up too well.
