    removing air screws from gs450 carbs (not about drilling out plugs)

    I'm trying to remove the air screws from the the carb body. I have unscrewed it as far as it will go but I can not get it to come out. Anyone offer any help? The screw in question in case I may be confusing my terms is the brass on in the upper right.

    Good job that you stopped and didn't bugger the screw any more.

    First thing is to get a screwdriver that engages that slot the full length, and tightly. I took an old screwdriver and customized it on my bench grinder until it's a nice tight fit. Next, if it will turn at all that is a very good sign. Get some PB Blaster or similar (not WD-40) and spray it on the screw. Work the screw in and out, in and out, pushing the screw more and more each time you try to back it out. If you have a heat gun, use that to heat up the carb body in that area too. As long as you don't get in a hurry that screw will come out.

      I'll give that a shot. I can tight the screw fully and loosen it fully to the point where I can feel the threads reseat as I continue to back it off. It just doesn't want to come out of the hole.

          I'm getting ready to rebuild my carbs on my 450. If you have any advice or other pictures I'd apprieciate the info. I've done my 650, but there a few things different on a 450.

            C'mon Charlie. I have blown motors to pay for. I'll charge you half price.
            1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
            1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

              I decided a year or so ago, after having mechanics half a$$ fixing my bikes, that if I'm going to ride , I need to work on them. That said, I would be willing to donate to Cheff's "Blown Motor Fund". I have confidence that you would do a good. I've seen recient pictures of the one's your working on .

              As long as there are a few folks willing to address my petty questions, I'll give it a try, and get it done. That grease dosen't clean off like saw dust.

              When is that thing going to get on the road?

                It's looking like two weeks. Still waiting on the head to get finished. I'd of had it done a month ago if I had it.
