    1983 GS450L racing idle

    Hi All,

Thanks for all of the information here!

I just put my carbs back together after a sucessful dip and cleaning. It took awhile to get it to run, but when I finally got it started I noticed that the pipes are blueing and the tidle races up as soon as you touch the throttle. I had the air screws adjusted out 1 1/4 turns initially and they are now out 1 1/2 turns. Any suggestions? Thanks, I appreciate it.

Did you replace the intake pipe boot O-rings?

Thanks, yes I did. I am also running a stock airbox and the boots are in good shape with no cracks.

Try three turn on the pilot screws and then adjust them until you achieve the highest idle speed. Also, check your sync. If you don't have a sync gauge you can sync a twin by first adjusting the idle up to 2500 rpm or so and then pulling off one spark plug wire at a time and seeing how high the bike idles. Tweak the sync until the bike idles the same speed with either cylinder firing. Before doing this kind of tomfoolary make sure you have a fan blowing on the engine.

Hope this helps and good luck
