    Pipes

I bought an 82 GS1100GK with hacked off pipes. Then I bought a set of pipes that purport to have been removed from an 83 1100. I know I should have checked compatability beforehand, but regardless, is there anything else I should know to look for? What's the manufacturer and PN on the cheapest aftermarket set?

      Hmmm, that's spendy.

K, so let's say you've got an 82 1100gk you'd like to put stock '83 1000(?) pipes on (they're ugly as sin, but whatcha gonna do).

The GK's original pipes hang off a screw thats just behind the pax-peg, however, the 1000's pipes seem to have had a spot about 3/4 inch farther forward.

Is it possible to throw something in there to make up the difference? I see the mounting plates are welded to the pipes, and wouldn't swap anyway. I'm pretty sure this is sounding incredibly easy to somebody out there, but I don't work in a machine shop or have any friends who do, so fab work isn't something that is immediately accessable for me.

I was thinking of a couple few steel cable ties and some insulating padding to keep it steady, but I wasn't sure how "fixed" these need to be to keep from f-ing up the ports at the head. Comments?

Also, I noticed while trying to get the new pipes on that they only reach to about halfway under the hardbags, is that right? It seems the pictures I'm seeing show the pipes terminate farther back.

The GK mufflers hang lower, to clear the bags. The pipes you have will work in that they fit at the head and under the engine, but obviously you will have to figure out the rear mount and bag clearance. Oh, and please don't use cable ties unless you want to donate your exhaust system to the ever growing scrap pile on the side of the road.
