A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Carb Prong Fix???

Hello guys, this is my first post, i was wondering if there is any quick solution to a broken float prong(the two post that hold the carb float in place). Two in a single carb body are broken, i tried to fixed both of them with JB weld but only one held up and quite frankly i think its gonna give soon. Thanks

JB won't last when submersed in gas.
buy another carb body and start over.
you'll be glad you did.

There are a couple permanent fixes, drill a hole centered in the post, another in the spot where the post broke off from. Tap both holes, thread a stud into the hole. With two on the same carb, stake the threads so they can't move.

The other is to hammer a brass tube down over what's left of the post, smash the end flat and drill a hole in it for the pivot pin.

Chuck the pins in a drill and use a file to get rid of the shoulder, so it slides into the post easier. There is no reason for the interference fit, it only causes broken posts.

Hi Mr. backslash,

I don't know if I've got everything you need to know about fixing motorcycles, but I can get you started with what I've learned and collected from the fine folks in this forum.

It's possible to fix a float post, but a new carb body is much easier and more reliable. Check ebay or the Parts for Sale/Wanted sections here in the forum. Search the forum for various fixes that have been tried. Never mind, here's some search results to get you started...

The best i think would be to change the #1 carb (left side when your sitting on the bike) while i hunt for a carb body i think i would read around more weigh my options and try to fix it myself.

@ tkent02: i'm liking the brass tube suggestion have you done it before? and if so any pictures and feedback

any other suggestions and insights are most appreciated. thanks! i will try to get a picture later so you guys can get a better idea

No, I haven't done the tube, someone else on here posted some pics a while back. The stud sounds more solid, because usually they break off too low, where the post is not round anymore.

I've never been one to break the posts much, but these carbs had a broken one already fixed with some brown epoxy looking stuff. It was broken but still stuck lightly together when I took it apart.

Think I will do the stud repair on it if a #2 BS 32 doesn't drop into my lap.

hi guys juz an update on the carb situation, shortly after reading through i went to ebay and saw a set of carbs and won the bid for 30 shipped was a lil rusty but nothing a lil carb dip cant fix, and now shes all pretty and no leaks lol. thanks for all the advise!
