    No power slow reving

    OK so here goes the bike is an 84 gsx750 i got the bike as a project and the guy i bought it from said it ran fine before it was parked 4 years ago the carbs were removed at some point during this time. I have put in new plugs two new carb boots all o rings pod filters cleaned carbs petcock runs freely. I took it for a small run when i get on the gas it takes a while for it to rev up as if i was slowly rolling on the throttle but i am twisting it fast and it has little power almost seems like it is only running on three cylinders. And is it normal to hear noise from the clutch area when its ideling low. Any ideas on this???

    Hi,

    Have the carbs been properly cleaned, I mean really cleaned? Have you jetted the carbs for the pod filters?

      Tighten down the clutch hub nut
      Pods without rejetting?

      What pipe are you running? stock?

        What size are the stock size jets i think the previous owner had this done. It has a 4 to 1 exhaust with a hindle can

          In situations like this, you can't think about it, you have to KNOW.

          Otherwise, I think you might end up rebuilding your engine due to having wrong jetting in the carbs.

          And, to repeat what BassCliff and Chef have asked, were the carbs thoroughly and properly cleaned? Not just a "drop the bowls and spritz some cleaner in there" cleaning, we are talking about a "stripping the carb down and dunking the parts in carb cleaner dip overnight, then re-assembly with all new o-rings" type of cleaning.

          Did you check your diaphragms? If there are any holes in them, throttle response will be sluggish. If they are not seated properly, they will leak, with the same results.

              Just doesn't cut it when you are possibly facing several hundred dollars rebuilding your engine.
              It does not take that long to pull the carbs, open them up and read the jet sizes.

              I see that you only have a few posts to your credit and that you just joined a couple of months ago, but surely you have seen multiple stories about the dreaded "PO", the "Previous Owner". They will tell you anything to make the sale. Only if you know the PO very well and trust him implicitly should you believe anything that was said about the bike.

              I realize it sounds a bit harsh, but I am just trying to avoid having to say "I told you so" when you tell us your tale about having to rebuild your engine.

                  Looks like it was the petcock there was a piece of silicone inside it, took it out and it works fine but i am sure i will have more questions still not running 100% sometimes it stays high ideling and won't drop back.

                    Hi,

                    Normally that is a sign of air intake leaks. (Could also be stuck throttle cable or carb slides, defective carb diaphragms, etc.) Be sure there are no leaks at the intake boots or O-rings and the carbs are properly jetted for the pod filters. If you run lean for too long you will melt your motor. Just ask Mr. chef1366.
