    GS400 VM carb swap, pods

I have a '79 GS400L I am making a cafe out of and like so many other fools I want to run pods or an oval filter.

I have searched the forums for info on pods with BS34's and the general consensus was to forget that route altogether. Ok, I hear you, I will.

Moving on to the next tack; the GS750 was equipped with VM26SS carbs for a number of years and it would seem they did the job. GS750 and GS400 bore, stroke and individual cylinder displacements are similar (65x60 and 199 cc for the 400, and 65x56.4 and 199 cc for the 750) with the 400 having ~6% more displacement per cylinder.

I would think with a freer flowing intake side (i.e. pods) the VM26SS would certainly flow enough for the extra fraction of displacement in a 400.

-Has anyone attempted this kind of swap?
-Does anyone know if the 750 and 400 have identical intake spacing (2-3 on the 750 and 1-2 on the 400)?
-Am I crazy to try this just so I can see through the frame and at least have the appearance of lightness?

    Cheers
    Andy

      Andy,

I haven't read very many threads of guys doing modifications, such as what your sujesting, to the GS twins. I don't think there is the wealth of info that there is on the inline fours. I'm just keeping mine running, no mods. Good luck.
