    Bike dies when Im coastin to a stop

    Hello,
    Recently when I pull the clutch in and cost to a redlight etc.., my bike dies. The oil light comes on when the bike dies.. Im able to start it again no problem. The oil level is fine. Does this mean the oil is getting distributed? How do i find the cause of this? Thanks,

    When the bike dies the oil light should come on. The engine has quit an oil is no longer flowing. If the oil light comes on before your bike quits you have a problem.

    As for the other part; once you start it again what is the idle like? If it's a little low you can turn the idle adjust knob a bit and that should solve both problems Ie: low idle and quitting at the stops...well, all three if you count the oil pressure light.

      I also have this problem on my 82 650.

      The faster I coast to the light, the higher chances of it stalling.

      If I coast very slowly, maybe give a Hair of throttle, it's usually fine.
      But I hate doing that every time I slow down, I shouldn't have to do that.

      I'm still getting used to riding this bike, and managing throttle, clutch, brakes, balance while managing coasting speed, AND keeping an eye around me is too much to do at the moment!

      I cranked up my idle, and it seems to fix the problem, but I don't really like Idling at 1500rpms.

      Back when my bike ran more Lean, I never had this problem, but the bike ran like crap in return.....(obviously running lean is bad and crappy performance.)

      Now the bike has much better power, but won't idle quite right after riding.

        thanks for the info! I guess ill put the idle up a bit. My tach doesnt work so i guess ill just go bit by bit until the problem is gone

          Hi,

          I would recommend adjusting the mixture screws using the "highest idle" method and then using the idle set screw to put the idle at 1100 rpm. See if that helps. Make sure your air intake system has no leaks and your carbs are clean.

            I agree
            I bet it doesn't stall before it is warmed up. The bike overheats from being lean and won't idle.
