Fuel Valve (petcock ) update

had an issue with my fuel valve and was installing an inline vacuum check valve , it worked but was not a succesful deal...........buying a new petcock is really the only sure thing, but I decided to put a motion pro inline fuel shutoff instead and plug the vacuum port to #2 carb , as long as I dont forget to shutoff the fuel as a saftey measure im good to go, I did learn however that rebuild kits dont always solve petcock problems

dont go with the pro motion, they are designed for smaller cc engines. go to dennis kirk and try the WSM performance ones...american made an better made too and abt same price. you can leave the stock petcock so u have ur reserve and use the inline as added insurance. just run clear moose gas line and if u turn ur manuals off the clear line might show u if the stock ones fail on you. just an idea. dennis kirk also has the moose gas line in their new metric catalog now .....hope this helps you.

but another thing to keep in mind i learned is these stock petcocks can also leak gas through the vacuum line which can also lead to the gasoil problem also so the inline manuals would not cover that end.

thank you for that info, that was my original problem, i was told the petcock was just rebuilt but discovered that the vacuum port check valve had melted from the old diaphram leaking and also pulling fuel into #2 vac port , my yankee-ness or mc-gyiver came out of me and tried the inline vac check valve of the wrong sort, removed guts from petcock ,found a suitable material to seal off vac port between petcock, installed an inline shutoff valve and bike is running great and no leaks , i did notice what you had mentioned about the motion pro valve being a bit on the small side, although it uses a 5/16 line the inside diameter is a bit smaller , im an old fart who rarely goes WOT on my 1980 gs1000 L , i will loook into getting that one you mentioned from dennis kirk ..........thanks for the feedback

Glad you got it sorted....however, as you said, there is no replacement for a proper working petcock. They are a little pricey, but, I'd rather have the correct part, functioning well, when dealing with flammable liquids that are mere inches from some very important "personal" parts.

Keep an eye on it.
