    79 GS550EN Airbox/carb boots?

    Hey Everyone,

I am looking for a new set Airbox/Carb boots to my 79' 550e. Ive checked bikebandit, partshark+++ and the boots arent marked with a number on the schmatics so it doesn't look they are still available.

For the 80 and forward 550's the boots are marked, and available, but those bikes have CV carbs while my bike and the other pre 80 bikes are fitted with VM carbs.

Does anyone know where I can get the boots? Can I use the 80'--> boots for the CV carbs?

I guess I could go for pods but I dont really want to mess with jetting. I am working my way towards an original bike that works perfectly before I start fidling with aftermarket parts.

Hi - the boots weren't a separate part on the early bikes - you have to get a complete new box. The CV carb airbox won't fit - the diameter of the boots is much bigger.

If you can't find a box the VM22s tune in quite easily if you fit pods. Mains should go to 90 or 95 (maybe 100 tops), raise the needles by one notch and tweak the airscrews to get a decent idle.

T-Bear, I see what you mean. The part you want does not even have a number associated with it, and the entire assembly is marked discontinued. Doesn't look good.
Do you have a dealer nearby where you can walk in and speak to a person? Oops, I see you are in Norway, that should make it more interesting.

Hmm, I was worried about that. Hope you guys would know where to get them.

Suzuki dealer around here is actually pretty good. Because bikes are horribly expensive here people tend to take good care of them so they last long and people need parts for the older bikes. I'll head over to the dealer next week then I guess.

I have no experience with rejetting carbs. Can I get the bike to start easily with pods? Tuning it to run i am sure is possible but getting it to start easily in the cold is my primary concern... It gets cold over here real quick so I gotta stretch my riding season in both ends...

        Thanks !
