    One cylinder not firing

    Hi,
I'm a new member to the forum. I have an '82 GS850G with low miles: 7,000.
It ran great last year when I got it, but since I took it out this winter it was a little sluggish.(I started it once every two-three weeks during the winter and had Sta-bil in the tank). Carb injector cleaner and dry gas in the tank and it smoothed out. Except it's not firing regularly on one cylinder. 3 plugs look great, the #2 plug is black and the pipe doesn't get real hot. I'm pretty sure I'm getting spark and I changed the plugs. Question: Should I guess that the carb needle is stuck and is flooding or does it sound like something else? I'm about ready to take the carbs off, but a friend mentioned valve timing....

    Greetings and Salutations!!

    Hi Mr. JerryM,

A fouled #2 plug could mean a malfunctioning petcock, letting fuel leak down the vacuum line. New plug caps and spark plugs go a long way in ensuring proper detonation too. Go through the maintenance lists in your "mega-welcome" and you'll be fine. You'll find lots of GS850G lovin' on my website.

I just stopped by to welcome you to the forum in my own, special way.

Sounds like the classic petcock problem to me, as well.

Welcome (though mine pales in comparison to Cliffs')
