    A few gs550es carb questions

I just got my carbs finished tonight and got them back in the bike. I completely disassembled and cleaned the carbs. I can get the bike to start and idle just fine, but it is staying at a high rpm after I blip the throttle. I adjusted the linkage, but still no luck. The throttle is smooth and quick back to position. I also replaced the intake o-rings, so no leaks. Checked just in case, but no leaks found. Also checked the airbox for leaks.Could this problem be from running rich or lean? I started the screws out 2 turns from in.

As a side note, I noticed something odd with the jets. Everything on this bike is stock, but the jets are not the specified sizes. The manual calls for a 95 and a 102.5 mains. Mine has a 90 and a 97.5. The other problem with this is that both bodies take the two different size mains. I have no idea which goes where! I can't seem to find a diagram in the manual or on a parts site that shows which goes where.

Why did suzuki have to make these crazy carbs??

The larger jets go in the center cylinders.. Make sure the choke linkage is closed... They will work, just takes some finesse

Larger size goes in the middle carbs. 1 & 4 should be 95 (in your case 90) and 2 & 3 should be 102.5 (97.5 for you). I think maybe the middle two carbs either draw more air or run hotter and as such the added fuel through the large jets corrects the flow imbalance to get stiometric and would help to cool the engine. Maybe.

Any fuel leaks from a float height? How do the boots look? Turn your choke on once and see how it reacts. Also look at the color of your exhaust. Its it black then its rich. Id assume an airleak, or chokes that arent sealing.

Mine had 90/97.5 jets. Cylinders 1&4 get the 90's and 2 & 3 get the 97.5's. Mains are 1.0s. Now thats spec for the ESF model in the US.

And heres some manual info for you. Which manual are you using by the way? This is a haynes.

        The models go as is.

Your carb number should be a 43660 (49 state) or a 43650 (Cali). Starter jet 100. Other then that the manual lists no additional info really.

Heres the other carb specs that differ from each other. Adding carb numbers and type and size is just redundant really.
        Idle speed 1100 +- 100
        Fuel level 6.5mm +- .5mm (.26"+-.02")
        Float height 20.5 +- 1mm (.81"+-.04"

        Main jets:
        ED,ES,ESE,ES3
        Cyl 1&4 95
        Cyl 2&3 102.5

        LD
        Cyl 1&4 95
        Cyl 2&3 105

EF, ESF, EF (Cali) ESF (Cali), LF
        Cyl 1&4 90
        Cyl 2&3 97.5

        Main air jet 1.0

The jet needles differ from model to model, clip position is non exsistant or at 1 on all models. Needle jets differ being a P-2 for the ED, ESD and a P-3 for all other models. Pilot jets are ED,ESD, LD 35 and the rest are 37.5. Pilot air jet: ED, ESD 145, ESE ES3 147.5, rest are 150.
The manual also notes that:"The GS550 ES3 model - specifications are not available for the main air jet, float valve seat, starter jet, fuel level, and float height"
