    refoam air filter

I really see no reason why the airfilter ever needs to be replaced on my '79 GS550L all that needs to be replaced would be the foam liner. It looks like its made to replace just the foam... maybe that IS all people replace, but I would expect it to be alot easier to find (and cheaper) if that was the case.

Here is what the filter looks like...

    unclipped:

    foam peeled back:

    foam removed:

So what I am wondering is what material do you guys think would make a good replacement? maybe a cheap airfilter that I could harvest the foam from? maybe an air conditioning filter?!

I did one on a 550 just like that. Bought some "Uni" brand foam from the bike shop. Most dirt bike stores have it in the flat or can order it.
For $12 - 15 you get enough to make about 3 of those.

I think I still have some left over if you can't find it local.
