    inboard cylinders running rich

one is richer than the other

its not the coils as 1-3 and 2-4 is the arrangment for sparking

    outer plusgs are tan

so what did I screw up?

its decent at low rpm so I assume the idle circuit is OK
I turned that back a half turn on all with no discernible change

so I am sitting and contemplating a foray into the carb rebuild

but its insane the two inboard cylinders only?
esp on carbs that share floats and and everything really but for main jets and needle jets
hell they share diaphraghms too so that aint it

compression? I adjusted the valves but they were Ok I know they were

unless the damned airbox boots are covering the air jets
they seem to like doing htat on this bike
but I assume that would mean less vacuum across the jets and less fuel not more.

unless the inboard jets vibrated loose. I have a dreadful fear of stripping out carb parts but then I would have been as prissy with the outers as the inners.

maybe ill just drop a quart of naptha in and drive the **** out of it.
    it fnally stopped raining

    Hi,

    That's kind of weird.

You're talking about those dual-throat carbs, right?

Have you tried a couple of new plugs to see if they get fouled too?

Have you changed any jetting or needle heights?

I'm not familiar with the dual-throat carbs. Do they each need a connection to the petcock? If so, could the petcock be going bad?

I'm just thinking out loud here.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

nope right carb get the vacuum line and the gas line from the petcock

left carb is fed via a fuel tube

so it really cant be a float height issue or a sporadic issue with eitehr a leaky petcock diaphraghm or a collapsing vacuum line

"he said knowingly, while the gods conspired to destroy him"

its new plugs and naptha time
ill do me a plug chop

so of course its late and my only choice was canadian tire and they didnt have the right plugs but anyway

being a redneck and knowing from the msds for seafoam thats its largely naptha I got me some naptha

and proceeded to test my drive the problem away theory

and begob if its doesnt accelrate like a bat out of hell now

        but

it gets boggy in high gear at about 4k
if you roll on you accelerate but would never achieve top speed

could I have put the larger inboard jets on the outside and put the smaller one in the middle ?

but this would alas lean the cylinders not richen them

For the past 2 days I've been tuning my individual carbs for pod filters and a freer flowing exhaust. I got the mixture pretty rich today by doing some custom mods and I noticed that the outer 2 cylinders are pretty much spot on but the inner 2 cylinders were very rich. I gave it some thought and figured it out... It's because the inner 2 cylinders don't receive the same amount of air flow that the outer 2 do, and because the inner 2 also suck in warmer air.

May not be your issue... but you seem like a logical thinker and so you may take my information and come up with a plausible situation of your own.

in a word DYNOJET and to hell with the quirkiness
stage 1 kits aint so much

I am a flippin idiot cos guess what
I have dr8es plugs in a bike that calls for d9ea
or at least i think it does

so assuming that the resistor cap plus a resistor plug is less conducive to electricity and the plug is one range colder

I may have a phantom factor
            new plugs tomorrw
god its lovely and its still daylight

Your coils are 1-4 and 2-3 for sparking. The outputs on the coils are starting left to right Left coil -1,4, Right coil-2,3 Id start there. :P

What id like to know is if both cylinders per coil fire at the same time or if they're on opposite cycles. One exhausting while one fires, or both firing like a twin cyl HD does. I could check my cam next time I have the top off though.

Id assume your coils are right since you're firing correctly.

                Hi,

Oops! I missed that little detail Mr. Danjal.

Indeed, the left coil fires #1 and #4, the right coil fire #2 and #3. Might as well check your voltage to the coils and go through the ignition troubleshooting guide on my website.

                    the coil
swapped it out and it drives the way its sposed to

thanks for the wake up call on my firing order mistake

                      Hi,

Nice! I love it when this motorcycle stuff works the way it's supposed to!
