'87 GS450 plastic needle space different?

I'm about to put together a set of carbs from an '87 GS450L that I dipped and painted this weekend and while I was checking the hardware lengths I noticed that the fiche for the 450L (going back to '82 I think) show the plastic spacer UNDER the needle clip, not on top of it like most other GS carbs I've seen. When I took these apart they were on top so I'm not really sure which way to go.

I guess I'll put them in as per the diagram and see how it goes but any confirmation of one or the other would be appreciated.

Plastic spacer under the needle clip does nothing since the spring pushes up. The spacer goes on top. As an aside, take those spacers and sand them down - remove about .75 mm or so. This will make the bike run much better.

I wonder why they changed the diagram for the 450 and put them under the clip for 82-87 or so? Wouldn't having them under the spacer be the same as using a super thin (or none at all) spacer on top of the clip? I'm going to pick up some M3 washers tomorrow and resize a stack of them as you've suggested if they need it.

Not sure what's going on with that diagram but that spacer goes on top of the clip. The spacer on the bottom does nothing so I can't imagine Mikuni/Suzuki doing that.
