well, she spat and sputtered and pooped out on me this morning just as i pulled into work. i looked at the plugs and found them all covered in soot. i think i'm at a good place to start leaning her out.

i rebuilt the carbs awhile back and added a few moves to ensure no more popping. i set the plugs to outer limits, after filing the ground straps to 'round' at the tips. i went to 93 octane for a slower burn and backed the mix screws out a good bit.

it's a tip i got from powerarc company. take a flashlight and shine it over a square object. the corners of the square object block the light. shine the light over the round object and compare the difference. same concept with the gas exposed to the spark

Have you checked the strength of your spark? Check the voltage feeding your coils? I had 12.4 at the battery and 8.4 at the coils. I was losing 4 volts to dirty contacts.

well, i'm really not a very stupid person, but i am new to wearing bifocals. when i initially set the gap, two feeler gauges stuck together and i could not see the line that separates them. long-story-short, the gap was way too wide, so i cleaned the plugs, reset the gaps to minimum spec and have put about 200 miles on her. i had to lean carbs 1 & 2 and richen 4 a little. now she's good. sometimes it's just the simple stuff
