I think it must have been installed in the frame before the engine goes in. It didn't take me long to get disgusted with it and move on to pods. With as much crap out of the way as I could remove I still couldn't get it out of the frame. I think I had to split it to finally get it out.

Tool dealers sell radiator hose removal "hooks" that help to get the boot lip over the carb bells

Removing the battery & battery box bolts really helps, it doesnt gain a lot of room but every little bit helps. Put the throttle cable back on before putting the carbs in the manifolds unless you really like doing things the hard way. Ive had mine off & on 11 times until I was satisfied with the jetting combo

Woodman and Madjack ... thanks for your tips, as they are things that I haven't tried ... so will give it a go. Since I will also probably have these suckers off again, I have also ordered new boots to ease my pain.

So ... getting back to this other question above ... what the hell are the "Rings" for, and where do they go. Can I go without them? Would really appreciate comments on this, since they show in the on-line fiche for this bike. Thanks again guys for all your suggestions.
