    Is that the petcock

I have a 82 gs850 and was lookind at my reserve switch after reading about a petcock rebuild on here and discovered it wouldn't move to reserve. Am I safe working it back and forth with wd40 or may I break it off?

If it doesn't move, just replace it, and be done with it.

you can rebuild them with kits but its worth just stripping it down first and giving it all a good clean up. wd40 will be fine to lubricate all the bits

If a petcock doesn't move smoothly and easily, I guarantee that forcing it to move will unleash all sorts of crud that will go directly into your carbs and cause problems, most often propping open the float needles and causing gas to overflow.
