Fastest/Easiest way to Richen Air/fuel Mixture on carbs?

Hey whats up guys i was wondering the easiest way to richen my carbs... I had my carbs on and off testing for days and today i finally have a good solid conclusion, Im LEAN! as soon as i put the carbs back on i rode for about 10 minutes really solid but after that it became reallly weak to rev etc. then i tried the choke lever while on the highway and she came back to life! took about another 10 minutes to go back to normal after turning choke off... WIll Turning the "Pilot Air Screw" left (loosening) make my mixture more lean or rich? my next things to do if its still lean is i am gona go out and buy some washers for my needles... any reccomendations? i am really close to running good so i just want some hints on how to tweak the carbs a bit to run a bit more rich! thanks everyone

Nice that you are checking, but please check in an organized manner.

There are several circuits in the carbs, each with its own jetting. You need to to plug chops to see what each circuit is doing.

But, to answer your question, turning the air screws to the left will LEAN out your PILOT mixture by adding more air. The pilot circuit is primarily for idle and very low throttle openings.

Changing the needle height is also a good thing to check, but that affects mid-throttle openings ONLY.

There is a page on BassCliff's site that explains how to do plug chops.

1st, you have VM carbs, not CV (BS).

You've been reading the wrong threads. The VMs already have an adjustable needle

If you've put the pods on, go to a 120 or 125 main jet and a 20 pilot

You don't mention your fuel screw. Where is that set and where is the air screw set?

Fuel screw should be about 1 turn out and the air screw 1 3/4 - 2 turns out

There is no "easiest" way to richen the carbs. You'll just have to tweak them until they are right. Read up on plug chops

I'm just guessing that you haven't cleaned your carbs, which would be a good starting point

honestly the bike ran pretty decent full power etc. when i first got it then when i painted the tank and put it back on the bike barely ran.. one thing i did notice is that the bike shut off when i used choke when i first bought it... my fuel screws are 2 turns out.. i have a stock airbox btw.. i am on the verge of just buying pods of some sort and buying 120's main jets... at this point where i am now im pretty sure i can get the bike running good by adjusting the needles out a bit!

well if it dosent run good after u painted or had it painted and it ran good before that aaaaaa i think u or he got paint somewhere he shouldnt have check and make sure everything is clean of paint where its not suppost to be. i wouldnt touch the carbs unless u do that first just my thoughts. maybe u got something in the gas line also dosent take much to make them run like ****
