You will only need one special tool and can pick it up from Z1 Enterprises for about $15 or use the "specially designed tool" referenced on Basscliff's site. Also, check the GS Resources Services forum and talk to GhostGS1 about the shims. For a small fee or the return of shims, you can get anything you will need.

Trust me, I thought it was alot harder than it turned out to be. But everyone helped out very well and I had it done in a couple of days (waited for tool and shims) after getting the valve cover off. Make sure you get a new ignition cover gasket, valve cover gasket, and breather cover gasket.

Also, try out drumhillcycle.com as they have alot of used parts for our bikes. I intend to get new side covers from there for mine as well.

Thanks, That "tool" looks like a good low budget alternative. I will see if I can find ghost for the shims. I imagine I need to disassemble it and measure the gap first !

The two vent hoses hang over the back of the airbox. They don't connect to anything. Do you have an airbox?

Did you completely disassemble the carbs and dip each carb body for 24 hours? Did you reassemble with an O-ring kit from http://cycleorings.com? The proper procedure is linked in your mega-welcome. If you just squirted the carbs with carb cleaner they may not be clean enough.

        Thank you for your indulgence,

I’m new here. I’m not much on internet forms. Sill got dialup. Been working on a 81 GS 1100, thinking about buying it. Will start a thread in the GS form to induce myself but first I wanted to say thinks for that pic on the fuel system hook up. That helped me get the bike running.

this looks like a great place.

        Thanks
