    Sputters at high rpm's

My 1982 GS750E seems to be sputtering at higher rpm's, it takes off like a rocket in any gear until I reach the higher rpms (6500 to 7500) where it sputters like an old man with emphysema, until I let off the throttle then it settles down. It's all stock, 16k miles, oil just changed, plugs, air and oil filter, I thought maybe a clogged petcock or float problems? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.Exhaust pipes are kinda yellow, running lean maybe?

definitly running lean it sounds like your bike is "yawning" at the higher rpms... do a plug chop and puff off to the side of the road i bet you your plugs are as white as michael jacksons nose... if its only high rpms your main jet is to small, go up 1 size, are you running stock airbox/ exhuast?
